Buildings Fall into Disrepair; Demolished in 2022

The photos depict a closing chapter in the Athens We Knew. Neglect and vandalism destroyed the original Litton Barber Shop, the Athenian Restaurant which was later a laundmat, other small shops, and a sprawling apartment building. Shown here is a walk around the block (Vermillion and Caperton Streets) before and after demolition.

Before and After

Disrepair and vandalism took its toll on historic and newer buildings on the south side of Vermillion Street, east of Caperton. Doyle Lytton's Barber Shop, the old Athenian Restaurant building, laundromat, and apartments were demolished in 2023.
