Then and Now
Wooddell Hall
Completed in 1962, this residence hall for men was built to accommodate 197 men in single and double student rooms, and also contained a resident supervisor’s apartment, laundry areas, a recreation room with a kitchen, and a lounge. Originally known as New Men’s Hall, it was renamed in 1977 in honor of William Sterl “Woody” Wooddell, Class of 1924, a former Head Basketball Coach, Assistant Football Coach, Chairman of the Department of General Physical Science, and Dean of Men.
Wooddell Hall was closed as a men’s dormitory in 2018. The men who had signed up for the 2018-19 school year were reassigned to either the South Tower or Wilson Hall which was made into co-ed housing. Men were assigned to the first two floors and women were assigned to the upper floors of Wilson.
The Student Health Center opened on the second floor of Wooddell Hall. The Health Center provides basic level medical care to students for acute minor illness or injury.
The first floor of Wooddell Hall was being used for storage after it was closed as a men’s dormitory in 2018. In 2023 renovations to be completed in early 2024 began. The newly renovated space will be used for Concord’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and the Master in Physician Assistant Studies Program.
