Mountain Recreation

Linda Hill Mann

G. Kenneth White, Jr. (1927-1970) developed the Mountain Recreation Center, a go-kart track and trampoline park about 1960. It was located off 460 where the American National University building was in 2023. Taylor’s Truck Stop was in front of the track.

John Hart, who lived in the area of the track, wrote a comment on Facebook’s You Know You’re From Princeton, if…"There were two tracks. One was for the rented go-karts. The larger one was built for speed and races were held on it." He said some of the go-karts were faster than cars.

G. K. White, Sr. liked to watch the go-karts going around the track and could talk for hours to the customers.

The go-kart track and trampoline park was closed after only 2 or 3 years. The Red Carriage was built about 1964 where the largest track was located. The Red Carriage later became the Hideaway.
