Hill and Goode Grocery

Perry W. Hill, son of Charles McK. Hill and Zelma French, and Jean Goode, daughter of Hurshal Goode and Viola Zwilling, married August 22, 1948. Perry Hill was a coach and teacher at Athens High School. Jean Goode Hill was a deputy clerk for the Mercer County Circuit Court.
Perry and Jean Goode Hill, owned the Hill and Goode Grocery Store from about 1952 to 1956 offering the usual line of groceries, meats and produce. The store was located in a building facing on Vermilion Street and the corner of Vermillion and Caperton Streets.
In about 1957 they sold the business to James Oxley and his brother-in-law John Pleasant Lockhart who changed the name to Lockhart & Oxley Grocery.
After Lockhart & Oxley closed, the building was first reduced from two stories to one and then eventually demolished completely.
