West Caldwell Street

Linda Hill Mann, Charles Baxter Photos

Caldwell Street begins at the intersection of South State Street, opposite Athens Elementary Street, stretching approximately 1.6 miles until it meets Unity Road. With a mix of historic and newer homes, the majority was constructed post-1950. The street traverses a portion of Pinehill Park, predominantly occupied by mobile and modular homes.

Historically, Caldwell Street is believed to have derived its name from Joe Caldwell, a prominent contractor renowned for erecting numerous homes in Athens during the late 1890s and early 1900s. His beautiful home near the intersection of South State Street and Caldwell was demolished in 2023.
