Farm Homes

Older homes in Athens were built in the late 19th and early 20th century. Several, like the Historic Homes and Holroyd homes featured in other sections, were not only durable and useful, but strikingly beautiful, illustrating stunning architectural detail influenced by the Victorian era. Many of these homes have been kept in good repair or restored. Unfortunately others have been neglected and some were destroyed. This is also the case in the surrounding countryside, where many families continue to tend to older farms while others have moved on, leaving houses, barns and out building to deteriorate. This section includes a sample of homes in and near Athens.
