Reflections

Introduction

Those of us who grew up in Athens during Our Years shared common experiences. After being away from each other for many years, in reconnecting we realize we often have different perspectives of those experiences. Sharing perspectives helps us gain a more complete understanding of our shared past. We remember many of the same places and events, but their impact on us and specific memories are different. Reflections is intended to help us remember, but more importantly, for friends to share their reactions to people, places and things.

Reflections offers short vengettes of special memories of Athens. In this section are stories written by friends of Athens We Knew and people like you. The focus is often on recollections and impressions as well as descriptions of personal reactions to events during our growing up years. Examples include Fern White Thorn's memories of her wonderful childhood in Athens and a contrasting essay by Linda Hill Mann who, living out of town, didn't necessarily feel a part of the community or local culture. There is a tribute to Bessie Fletcher contributed by Tom Lamb and a eulogy for a lost friend Ray Austin written by Garland Elmore. There are memories about people and the cars they drove, people and the pets they loved, and descriptions of favorite places. Making this section more complete depends on you.
