Athens Police Department is a one person department. The Officer In Charge at the time of this writing is C. T. Lowe.
In 2020 with money appropriated by the Athens Town Council and donations by local residents they were able to add another officer, Mathias, to serve and protect the citizens of Athens.
Mathias is a Doberman Pinscher. He was bred in Serbia and exported to Germany where he was trained. He is used to track narcotics, track and find lost people and apprehend fleeing suspects. His most important job, however, is to visit children in hospitals to help lift their spirits.
On Officer Appreciation Day, Officer Lowe was presented with a cake to let him know how much the Town and its citizens appreciated his service and dedication.
