Athens Voluneer Fire Department Website

The Athens Volunteer Fire Department is located in beautiful Athens, West Virginia. Situated 7 miles north of Princeton, Athens is the home to a population of around 1000 citizens. Athens is also the home of Concord University, a small liberal arts college that is attended by nearly 2500 students each semester. Our town is rich in tradition and history with a small-town feel where everyone is a neighbor.

The Fire Department has been a staple of the community for over 90 years. Though our town may be small, we operate much like a large scale department. We hold regular weekly training meetings, provide community service, and of course provide emergency services to the town of Athens and the surrounding communities. In 2002, Athens underwent an official ISO review and became one of a very few all-volunteer Class 4 departments. Only the city of Princeton Fire Department has earned a lower ISO rating.

Over the past 15 years we have replaced every piece of apparatus, purchased new turn-out gear, implemented a high-quality training program and continually improved our tactics and operations to become one of the best fire departments in the state. We are currently in the process of securing land to build a brand new, state-of-the-art, facility that will bring our department completely into the 21st Century.

We strive each and every day to be the best at what we do and to provide a necessary service to the citizens that depend on us.
