Our Years Contemporaries
Garland Elmore


Living on the Athens Road near the "big curve," Lowell and Otella Austin raised five children, Howard, Ray, Larry, and twins Helen and Ellen.


The Joseph and Sallie Harlan Friedl family lived on Center Street during our years. The children were Joe (Jr.), Chester, Henry, John Dexter, and Sally.


The James Mason "Boney" and Elizabeth "Liz" Bowling family lived beside the Friedl family on Center Street during our years. Boney and Liz had to children, Nan and Mary.


Charles "Bo" and Margaret Vermillion Baxter moved from Center Street to the last house on Plymouth Street during our years. The children were Vickie and David.


William B. and Elizabeth "Betty" Steinbugler Robertson, with their son Ken, lived on Center Street across from the Bowlings during our years. They are shown here at a party with neighbors.


During our years the Homer K. and Helen Ball family lived in an apartment above Athens Market, a store owned and operated by the family. Contact us if you know the names of the children.

William Sterl "Woody" Wooddell, Dean of Men at Concord College during our years, Wooddell Hall is named in "Woody's" honor. Jacque Martin Wooddell taught at Athens Elementary School during our years.
