23. Snowed some today several times. Dr. Lilly went shopping again this afternoon. A man killed on Hale’s Gap tunnel on Oakvale Road in an automobile. Went to Mountain Jackson to Xmas Program. Real good. So hoarse- can’t hardly talk.
24. Snowing yet this morning. 12 above zero. Lots of snow for Xmas. Mrs. Gentry brought up packages from Hinton last night. Officers caught Grover Bolin under chicken house making liquor.
25. 6 above this morning. Old Santa sure came to see me. Was invited out for dinner up to Estel’s & Florence’s. Sure did have some dinner and a crowd. After supper we went out to Fred Ball’s a while. Warming up some.
26. Raining this morning and continued all day. Late at night it went to freezing. Got a card from Terry Thomas of Lamar WV. Mr. Keeney’s home burned yesterday and everything they have.
27. Ice everywhere today. Did not thaw any. Real hoarse today also. Nobody in to work hardly. Too slick. Went up to Quincy’s awhile after supper.
28. Slick. Went to Sunday S. and then to Lacy Lewis for dinner. Es & Florence Bolin, Mr & Mrs. Hall, Ray Cheatwood & family, 2 of Giles children and a lot more. Sure was slick going and coming back. Bill was over home for supper. Neta is sick. Dr. out to see her. No news. Snowed nearly all day on top of ice.
29. A very nice day. Melted a little, not much. Ponce De Leon Hotel at Roanoke burned last night. Only 1 man burned up in it. Colder looks like snow. Dr. out to see Neta again.
30. Snowing and blowing, drifting and what not. Dr. Lilly going to Beckley to Mrs. Scott’s funeral. Sure is a bad day. Dr. Lilly got a sore fall. Got an invitation to Mr. Hall’s in Princeton Sunday for dinner.
31. The last day of 1930 and it is a real winter day. Ground froze and covered with snow. I am kindly glad to see the old year go and the new come, if it will rain more during the summer. Good-bye 1930.
